The FMB

What is the FMB?

The FMB is a trade association established over 60 years ago to protect the interests of small and medium-sized building firms – today it is the largest trade association in the UK building industry.

The FMB is a source of knowledge, professional advice and support for its members, providing a range of modern and relevant business building services to save them time and money. The FMB is independent and non-profit-making, lobbying continuously for members’ interests at both national and local levels.

Our Mission

To be the first choice business association for small and medium sized building firms throughout the UK by:

• Protecting their interests against unnecessary or bureaucratic regulation.
• Promoting them as dependable, quality builders and specialist trades people.
• Providing services and support to help them run better businesses.
• Projecting their opinions on major policy issues.

Our Aims

• Sustain our position as the voice of small and medium sized building firms.
• Increase the promotion of FMB’s members.
• Develop the FMB team of active members and staff.

FMB Code of Practice

FMB builders work to a strict code of practice which they commit to every year when they renew their membership. The code of practice covers their relationship with customers throughout the building process.
